Tol fruit or toll fruit, Landolphia heudelotii plant is highly valued for its fruit, which is gathered from the wild and often sold in local markets. This specie was at one time the main rubber supplier to Senegal, Guinea, and the French Sudan (modern Mali). Tol or toll is a globose shell that contains seeds coated with very soft and juicy light yellow pulp. The seeds are tart and sweet. You can taste the fruit as is or season with sugar, salt hot pepper etc. Mixed with water and sugar, the pulp gives a delicious juice. The fruit is rich in vitamin C. Too or toll is a very popular fruit in West Africa, a true delight ! It is not advised to swallow the pit but it is covered with a superficial skin that can be consumed. Not recommended to children 2 years and below as they might accidentally swallow the pit. Add spices to personalized it as you desire.
